The Bofors 40mm Automatic Gun L-70 on Field Mounting is a close range anti-aircraft weapon, mounted in a single-barrel mounting on a 4 wheel trailer carriage. It is intended for engaging high speed air-craft flying at low altitude, its chief characteristics being high speeds of elevation and traverse combined with a hihg rate of fire. The gun is normally fired electrically from remote control. It can also be fired electrically from the gun position by means of Bofors local power control. In case power supply fails, the gun can be operated purely mechnically from the mounting.
The gun is a development of the original 40 mm Bofors gun, the term L-70 referring to the length of the barrel in calibres. Although it is a rapid fire automatic weapon, it can be set for a single shot, it is fed by an automatic mechanism into which 4-round clips are loaded by hand. This ammunition is manufactured to governmnet of India, Ministry of Defence drawing No.IRW 115 GF and Bofors specification number D 200-H(c)

Due to its sound design and careful manufacture, the ammunition is very reliable for use in combat field environment
Each round is packed in water proof laminated paper containers, the body & lid of which is closed with two turns of water proof tape adhesive. 12 such containered rounds are packed in one steel box.
