Cartg.23mm Schilka APIT

This is an anti aircraft ammunition. It is complete round consisting of case cartridge, cap (Primer KB No.3), propellant charge, Projectile(Shell) like other ammunition. Details of the components are as follows:

CASE CARTRIDGE

The case cartridge, made of steel, is rimless but belted type, the length of cartridge case is approx. 151.8 mm. It has got a pocket at the base to house a cap(Primer). This pocket is connected to interior of the case by only one central fire hole. Case is having base dia. of 33.29 mm and flange of width 3 mm followed by extractor groove of width 5mm. After extractor groove, case is slightly tapered to form a shoulder after which taper is slightly increased to form neck with parallel walls. The shell is a fixed to the cartridge case by indenting and coning.

PROPELLANT

The propellant charge used in single base heptatubular graphited propoellant having mass of 78 gms.(approx.)

SHELL API

Shell comprises body, driving band, tracer, incendiary charge (igniting charge) and ballistic cap.

Driving bands fiited to the body. At lower portion of the body, below driving band 2 groove are formed to facilitate fixing of the cartridge case. The shell is flat headed and is having 2 tiers of grooves and knurling for better fixing of ballistic cap. Body is recessed at the base to accommodate tracer composition haviong a mass of 2.62 gms. Incendiary charge(ignitiing charge) is placed over the flat head portion of the armour piercing body. Ballistic cap is having a streamlined shape.

QUALITY

Strict measures are adopted during varous stages of production. Finished components and before proceeding for manufacturing of the components all materials are submitted to the Quality Assurance personnel as per the control points mutually decided beside this sanctioning proof of major components is also being carried out as per the proof schedule by the Quality Assurance department before accepting the bulk lot.

This ammunition is quite safe during handling, storage and transporation.

Due to its sound design and the manufacture, the ammunition is quite reliable to use.

PACKING

The rounds are pakced in steel box H-60 Mk-1 with packing fitments. 42 cartridges are packed in one box. The rows are separated by paper waxed.
