Cartg.23 mm Schilka HEIT

This is an anti aircraft ammunition. It is complete round consisting of case cartridge, cap(Primer KB No.3), propellant charge, projectile(Shell) like other ammunition. Details of the components are as follows:

CASE CARTRIDGE

The case cartridge, made of steel, is rimless but belted type, the length of cartridge case is approx. 151.8 mm. It has got a pocket at the base to house a cap(Primer). This pocket is connected to interior of the case by only the central fire hole. Case is having base di. of 33.29 mm and flange of width 3mm followed by extractor groove of width 5mm. After extractor groove, cse is slightly tapered to form a shoulder after which taper is slightly increased to form neck with parallel walls. The shell is a fixed to the cartridge case by indenting and coning.

PROPELLANT

The propellant charge used in single base heptatubular graphited propellant having mass of 78 gms.(approx.)

CAP(PRIMER KB No.3)

Mass of filling from cap           : 0.25 gms.

SHELL HEI

Shell comprises boyd, driving band, tracer, bursting charge and fuze shell body is screw threaded internally at the mouth to take a fuze and is recessed to accommodate bursting charge. Shell body accommmodates tracer also at the bottom.

Butsting charge consists of a pellet containing RDX + WAX. Body is recessed at the base to accommodate tracer composition having a maxx of 2.62 gms.(approx.)

SPECIAL FEATURES

The ammunition design has incorporated latest version of Fuze MG 25 as the fuze is designed to explode the shell at the target and cause self destruction of the shell in case it misses the target

QUALITY

The raw materials used for components are tested by independent Quality Assurance Wing. DUring manufacturing stage, quality surveillance by both producer and army's representatives are provided. Major componenets are test fired and passed proof components are taken int o final assembly of ammunition. The complete round is proved for (a) Muzzle velocity (b) Pressure (c) Cartg. Correct assembly

SAFETY

The roudn is assembled with the Fuze MG 25 in which multiple safety arrangements have been provided to ensure total safety during handling and transportation. Tje fuze has got a self destruction device in case it misses the target.

RELIABILITY

Due to its sound design and the manufacture, the ammunition is quite reliable to use.

PACKING

The rounds are packed in steel box H-60 MK-1 with packing fitments. 42 cartridges are packed in one box. The rows are separated by paper waxed.
