Round 106mm RCL HEAT

This ammunition is fired from 106mm.RCL Gun mounted on a jeep against Tanks. The cartridge combines some of the characterstics of Rocket and Artillery ammunition in its design.This ammunition functions on the principle of shaped charge.

The 106 mm RCL Gun is used against TAnks and Pill Boxes by Infantry units .The American version weapon is 106 mm Rifile M-40. The weapon has direct and indirect sighting instruments.The gun is fitted with .50" spotting Rifile round for this is Cartridge SA .50 Spotter Tracer.All other designs of the ammunition parts and functioning are like Artillery components,expecting that a perforated steel cartridge case allows rearward escape of gases and has no driving band. The ammunition is similar to American M-344 version .The fuze used is No BD 2B equal to version PI-BDM-509 A2.Cartridge case base is mild steel forgoing to specification BS 970 Pt.I:1983 Grade 070120 and Body is of steel sheet specification BS 1449 pt1:1992. The cartridge case after fabrication is heat trEATED .Propellant is heptatubler double base type T-238 Primer No.13A/L(Primer percussion M-57) is push fit american type percussion one.Projectile is ogive with nose assmbly body with cone assembly and base with fin assembly .This ammunition is manufactured to Governament of India,Ministry of Defence Specification No.IA 1088 and drawing Number IRW 74 GF.

SAFETY

Safety cap on the top prevents the piezo crystal being crushed until itstrikes a hard surface.The detent locks the rotor in the unarmed position so that the detonator in fuze is out of alignment with the explosives train until the projectile leaves the muzzle there by ensuring bore safety.The electrical circuit is incomplete when the rotor is in the unarmed position Circuit is complete within the fuze only after the round is fired. Due to its sound design and careful manufacture ,the ammunition is very reliable for use in combat field environment.

PACKING

The rounds are packed in laminated paper containers and two such containers are packed in steel Box C-38A.Propellant charge inside the cartridge case is enclosed in polythene liner to protect it against ingress of moisture.
