Shell 105mm IFG HESH |
105mm IFG HESH shells are one of the many types of projectiles fired from indian field gun. This ammunition is employed primarily as an anti-tank ammunition and has a fixed charge. It gives a very effective anti-tank performance.
IFG HESH ammunition is having a thin walled ogive and the fuze is assembled at the base. The HC substitute composition filled at the nose of the amn. gets squashed on the surface of the armour plate on impact and then and fuze functions. The detonation wave from the high explosive charge moves forward and a scab is detached from the armour plate which penetrates the tank body and incapacitaties the tank. The stability of the amn.Is acieved by spin .A tracer fitted at the base of the shell traces the path of the projectile during fight.

The base fuze assembled with the shell has inbuilt mechanical safety arrangements to aoid any premature functioning during filling, transportation and handling the filled shells.
BEcause of high chemical energy released on impact, the projectile causes heavy damage inside the armour/hard surface.Low silhouette and a top traverse of 60 degrees give the gun an effective performance with its HESH shells.
The packing consist of an inner container and outer package. Two shells packed in laminated paper containers, are further packed in a wooden/steel boxes with suitable packing fitments to ensure snug packing.
The stowage dimensions of one of the box wooden/steel(holding two shells in laminated container)is 741x 210x 352mm.
